A Day That Shall Live in Infamy
Posted by mike on December 7th, 2007
Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy … Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. …
Every year, it seems to come and go. Often times, it slips my mind until a news article jogs my memory. Today is Pearl Harbor Day — the 66th anniversary of Japan’s attack on the USA on Dec. 7, 1941. This also marks the only time in history since the ratification of the Constitution that we have been attacked by another country onĀ US soil.
In all, there were 2,388 dead and 1,178 wounded. ONE THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-SEVEN men now rest at the bottom of the harbor, encased in the USS Arizona’s rusty hull.
Of course, I most certainly wasn’t there, and every year fewer folks remain that were… today only numbering around 5,000 survivors. I think it is important to remember this day and what it represents. If it were not for the movie back in 2001/02, I’m not sure many people would remember this attack. So take a moment today and remember those who died for the freedoms we enjoy. They earned it the hard way.
